So far, 2012 has been shaping up to be one hell of another year. My schedule has been anything but lite, the boy is growing up faster than I can keep up with, the cat has become a professional at walking in front of me everywhere and the dog’s pathetic face has been fine-tuned into an absolute masterpiece. Thank Darwin that my wife still takes it somewhat easy on me.

I’m sure that you have also noticed that it’s been a while since I’ve updated you on my antics. So… I will gladly apologize for my neglect. But, rest assured, that there hasn’t been anything major to report. And, if you have been keeping up with my tweets, photos of the family and the occasional video of Gus doing something completely adorable, you probably haven’t missed anything important. All in all, things have been going pretty well for our modest little family.

So far this summer, things have been much like they were last summer. My school and teaching schedule was pretty hectic again this quarter. But, at least it kept me out of trouble. I taught my usual eleven units at the community college, co-taught a five unit class again at the university and took three units of a research group. But, as rough as a schedule it was again this summer, I would still not change a thing.

As you may know, we usually take a road trip during my break between summer and fall quarters to decompress from my insanely compressed summer quarter schedule of teaching and school. But, this year we have already spent what little money we have these days on going to Tucson at the end of my spring quarter to visit some of Karin’s family. So, my plan this summer is to stick around the house and get some of the much needed work done during my break instead.

Gus and I have already gotten off to a good start during our weekends leveling off the yard, planting new grass, planning out the planter boxes that we are going to build and removing the stump from that old holly tree that we both hated. So, to hang out together this year and get some more stuff done during the rest of the summer is fine by the both of us. Plus, we definitely have enough beer in the fridge that we will enjoy our break-time together after a hard day’s work.

So, here’s to a well deserved break… even if it is spent just sitting in the backyard.
